I'm Jenny. I used to have a food blog on tumblr, but now I've moved that sucker over to muchadough.wordpress.com! Instead, this here, I do declare, is a junk drawer.

Revisits

Hey ho, party-o.

I’m having a bit of an off day. I’m not too sure what it’s from, my all day, the lighting has sucked and my photos came out badly and I’m probably unwittingly nursing a tummy-ache from a rather bad cupcake.

Or it could be because I stayed up until 5am last night reading a book and had to leave for DC by 10am this morning.

Whatevs.

I had a lunch with one of my former bosses, Julie, from when I interned for the DC mayor (Mayor Fenty) in 2009.

We went to Paul’s bakery, which I featured when my godmother shared some macaronswith me.

This place was totally and utterly French. All the selections were classic French patisserie, boulangerie, viennoiserie, sandwiches, and coffee. The servers were cute and cheery, and chirped out, “Bonjour” and “Bon appetit!” and “Au revoir, merci!” at you with great enthusiasm.

Plus, the pastries, oh my goodness the pastries…

And a lovely selection of quiches (like the classic quiche lorraine), sandwiches, and tarts.

I ordered the caprese sandwich, with fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil, and pesto sauce on sourdough bread.

Afterwards, I followed Julie to One Judiciary Square, which brought back quite a flood of memories.

I had interned for the DC Mayor’s office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, and had to handle a lot of constituency services and liaison work.

It was quite a lot of fun, though, let me tell you, especially since I was still in high school at the time! This picture is of us three interns, with the Director Julie at the Annual Sidewalk Chalk Contest, of which I was in charge of. That project was one of my babies from that summer!

Poopy picture. I nearly got hit by a car, and Julie had to shove me out of the way because I had stupidly stopped in the middle of the crosswalk to snap this.

My old cubicle!

They were having a toy give-away later, which is why everything was laden with little gifts.

Barf. What a bad photo.

And for those who follow food trends, DC has been riding this cupcake obsession for a few years now, so I went to Red Velvet Cupcakery, which is where they had bought me cupcakes for my goodbye party.

I ordered the Northern beauty, which is a devil’s food cake with no sugar added (it was sweetened with xylitol) but quite frankly, the cupcake was dry and not that tasty at all.

So disappointing.

Ah, but one can always count of hanging out with Stuart in coffee shops to feel better!
